National tree of India

The national tree of India is commonly known as fig tree or banyan tree . It is scientifically called Ficus benghalensisThe national tree of a country is one of the symbols of pride that is integral to the nation’s identity. It has long and deep roots and branches that symbolize the country's unity . This tree is found in all over the India .

   The branches of the Banyan spread over a large area take roots and keep on living and regenerating for thousands of years. Over the years, it consistently gains more trunks and branches that add to its longevity. 

    It has dark green leaves and it bears red coloured fruits which are not edible . The huge tree acts as a shield and protects people from the hot Sun .

According  to the Indian mythology, it is considered immortal. Many of the Indian villages are centered around large shady banyan trees that provide a good place for public meetings and meetings of the village council.
    In india , The tree is revered as sacred in Hindu philosophy . The tree is often symbol of fabled 'Kalpa Vriksha' or the 'Tree of Wish fulfilment' as it is associated with longevity and has important medicinal properties .
