A cute and beautiful state animal of sikkim is now endangered - Red Panda

Do you know the name of this beautiful animal ?

This 63 cm long and beautiful soft fur skin animal is commonly known as Red Panda . It is the state animal of Sikkim. It's scientific name is Ailurus Fulgens. It's also known as Cat Bear. 

This beautiful animal was first discovered in 1821. During that time it was considered a member of the bear family. But it was later declared a separate family. Their main food is bamboo leaves. Apart from this, they also eat seasonal fruits, seeds. But when given a chance, they do not fail to clean hands even on small insects and sparrows eggs.

The Habitat for Red Pandas :-

Red Pandas are found in the high-altitude bamboo forested areas on the Himalayan peaks in India where they prefer to be near water. They are mostly active at dusk and dawn, and they sleep during most of the day. Their ruddy fur helps them blend into the canopy of fir trees where branches are covered with reddish-brown clumps of moss and white lichens.

Why red pandas are endangered ?

Habitat loss is the main threat to the red panda’s survival. Human growth in the area, combined with climate change has led to the fragmentation and loss of livable land. In addition, the red panda has faced dangers from hunting and poaching.

There are fewer than 10,000 red pandas left in the wild

Due to its beauty, it has been hunted a lot, making it fall into the category of crisis animals. If adequate measures are not taken for its protection, soon it will also be included in the category of endangered organisms.
